DGP SR Mardi on Wednesday directed industry associations of Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh (BBN) and the beopar mandal to install more CCTV cameras in the area to facilitate effective policing.

The issue was highlighted in these columns on Wednesday.  With heinous crimes such as snatching and robbery coming to the fore every now and then, the unavailability of adequate CCTV cameras is acting as a deterrent for nabbing the miscreants. The directions come at a time when a collection agent of a local finance company was shot at by two bike-borne unidentified youths near Sandholi village three days ago. The police have failed to trace the accused.

Even four cases of snatching reported in November are yet to be solved. Despite a DIG camping in the area for the last three days, the police have failed to make any progress in these cases.  The DGP, who convened a meeting of police officials as well as industry and beopar mandal representatives, said more CCTV cameras of high resolution should be installed inside as well as outside

their premises and at prominent locations.

He said though 1,078 CCTV cameras had been installed in various districts such as Mandi, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Kangra, etc., the Baddi area was lagging behind in this regard. Taking the local police to task for failing to effectively work out crime cases, he directed the staff to strictly enforce various laws like Motor Vehicle Act and the NDPS Act.

The DGP said the issue of enhancing the staff strength in the Baddi police district was before the state government and efforts were underway to make available additional force in the area.

Let's learn together! (??)
