Mobile phones keep us connected but are you getting the most data and best service for your money?
Now you can work out the cheapest deal for your needs – in a matter of minutes.
Consumer analysts Canstar Blue have just launched a new mobile phone comparison tool.
"We show providers and their plans, who offers the overall best value," Canstar Blue Editor Simon Downes said.
"It’s not just the cheapest because sometimes the cheapest is not the best value."
You simply put in the make and model of your phone and the type of plan you want, select your preferred data allowance, then compare prices and ratings for customer service and support.
At the moment it’s worth comparing larger providers with new players on the market – there can be a big difference.
For example, to get 20gb of data on a sim-only plan, it costs $20 a month with Lyca, $24.99 with TPG and $50 through Woolworths, though always check how long the cheap deals last.
They can expire after six months.
"Retailers are competing for every ten cents, they’re undercutting each other, they’re trying to out do each other on the features that they’re offering," Mr Downes said.
Price wars are tipped to get even bigger with a $15 billion planned merger between Vodafone and TPG.
According to Ben Mcintosh from Vodafone it means better offers, better technology at a better price for customers.
"You will see ultimate competition, great new products coming through that haven’t even been thought of yet," Mr McIntosh said.
The advice? Don’t lock into any long-term contracts just yet.
"By Vodafone and TPG combining their buying power this means we’re going to see big handset plans, big data," Mr Downes said.
"Unlimited data is going to become the norm over the next year or two."
