WA government 'considering' banning mobile phones at schools
Most students have mobile phones but it’s now acting as a tool for violence, parents claim.
Several shocking fights have been filmed on school grounds and filmed on mobile phones and the WA Education Department is now considering a blanket bans on phones.
One brutal assault was caught on camera at a Southern Suburbs High School.
The boy was beaten so badly he was concussed and spent two nights in hospital.
“He was hunted down, he was chased through the corridors of the classes,” the victim’s father, Michael, told 9NEWS.
“We all give our kids phones for security on the way to school, but when they’re in class do they need it? I don’t think so."
There are around 45 million bullying incidents occurring in schools each year.
In NSW, a 13-year-old girl was charged with assault over a brutal attack at Bega High School.
“Letting schools make their own decisions on this is the current arrangement and I’ll talk to the education minister about any changes that might be needed,” WA Premier Mark McGowan said.
