Nex-Tech Wireless offers local alternative for phone service

Nex-Tech Wireless’ recently-opened location on 616 Merchant St. is offering Emporians a new and affordable way to stay connected.

Founded in 2006, Nex-Tech Wireless formed from several smaller telephone companies — including Rural Telephone, Mutual Telephone and Golden Belt Telephone — seeking to address the need of locally-owned wireless service. Council Grove-based Tri-County Telephone Association, Inc. purchased the company in July 2014 and has since helped expand its coverage into East Central Kansas. Currently, Nex-Tech Wireless serves 40 counties around the state and four in Colorado.

“We have owners that have strong roots in our local communities,” Nex-Tech Wireless Marketing Supervisor Corrina Hudsonpillar said. “While based in Kansas, we have nationwide service and all the latest technology and offers like iPhones, iPads, Android smartphones and unlimited data or advanced-pay plans. Anything that you could expect from the big names, we can also provide. We just pride ourselves in local customer service, knowing the customers and investing back into the communities we serve. When you do business with Nex-Tech Wireless, the money stays here in Kansas.”

Thanks to a state-of-the-art network in Kansas and shared cell towers around the country, Hudsonpillar said customers can and should expect the same coverage and speeds as they would receive with a major carrier.

“Down here in the Emporia area I’ve been told the network that we’ve built is like the Taj Mahal of networks — it’s cutting-edge,” Hudsonpillar said. “When you travel outside of those areas where our network towers are, you’re going to be utilizing our partners. It could be a Verizon or a T-Mobile or a Sprint — we partner with the big guys and other smaller regional carriers. We’ve got all these nationwide players that we share towers with. A lot times people don’t understand that it goes both ways, but a lot of their customers are using our towers as well.”

District Sales Manager Anne Erbert encouraged those thinking about making a switch to do so in time to take advantage of Nex-Tech Wireless’ current line of promotions.

“We’re running a special right now where you can get up to three lines with free unlimited data for a year,” Erbert said. “We have a bunch of unlimited options available depending on customer needs. With the unlimited data deal, you can also get 50 percent off new smartphones or tablets.”

The store sells more than just new phones, tablets and service plans, however. Shoppers looking for phone accessories like screen protectors, cases, PopSockets, Bluetooth speakers and headphones can browse a large selection even if they are not under a service contract. Nex-Tech Wireless team members are also available for out-of-store activations and business consultations as well.

“We have all the latest and greatest tech when it comes to wireless service, and we know how important it is for people to be able to communicate,” Hudsonpillar said. “Cell phones are often our lifelines in a way, so we want to be able to provide something that’s reliable no matter where a person lives, works or plays. Whether it’s a rate plan or a new device, I think there’s something across the board for every budget and every need here.”

The new store is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday - Friday and 9 a.m. - 11 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information on Nex-Tech Wireless, including details on service plans, rates and ongoing promotions, call 620-208-8650 or visit
